War Memorial
The war memorial commemorates those of the town who died during the first and second world wars.
The memorial stands proudly on "Black Hill" and is visible from most parts of the town. The memorial was designed by John Ellis, an architect from Aberdeen, to look unfinished, symbolising incomplete lives of those who died.
The names of those who died during the First World War are inscribed in the central column, and those in the Second World War around the sides.
Carved at the top "One by one death challenged them, they smiled in his grim visage
and refused to be dismayed" is written.
The war memorial can only be accessed by foot. A couple of parking spaces are available at the base of the path leading to the memorial.
